Earthrise 1: Historic Image Remastered

"Oh my God! Look at that picture over there! Here's the Earth coming up. Wow is that pretty!"

Soon after that pronouncement one of the most famous images ever taken was snapped from the orbit of the Moon. Now known as "Earthrise", the iconic image shows the Earth rising above the limb of the Moon, as taken by the crew of Apollo 8. But the well-known Earthrise image was actually the second image taken of the Earth rising above the lunar limb -- it was just the first in color.

With modern digital technology, however, the real first Earthrise image -- originally in black and white -- has now been remastered to have the combined resolution and color of the first three images.

Behold! The featured image is a close-up of the picture that Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders was talking about.

[Historical note: A different historic black & white image of the Earth setting behind the lunar limb was taken by the robotic Lunar Orbiter 1 two years earlier.]

Note:
Sizes are in inches and these are our defaults. If you require custom border sizes or no border, then please contact us or specify in the comments section at Checkout.

Unframed Premium and Fine Art Prints

Prints over 11"x14" come with borders by default.

Paper Size Image Size Border
04"x06" 04"x06" 0"
05"x07" 05"x07" 0"
08"x10" 08"x10" 0"
11"x14" 10"x13" 0.5"
12"x18" 11"x17" 0.5"
16"x20" 15"x19" 0.5"
24"x30" 22"x28" 1"
24"x36" 22"34" 1"
30"x40" 28"x38" 1"
All images are cropped to fit the selected size within +/- .5". Therefore, some part of the image may not appear in the final print, when comparing to the online thumbnail. This missing part may appear on the sides or the top and bottom. This is a standard printing practice so that the finished product will fit standard frame sizes. This cropping is the default action.

If you would like uncropped images, tell us by putting a note in the comment section at Checkout. Keep in mind that the uncropped image size will always be smaller than the ordered size.

The actual sizes of objects in the image may not vary within 1/2" due to printer resizing during the final print imaging on the printers.

Crease through Earth, no reply from support

Print looked fine but arrived with a visible crease right through the middle of Earth. Emailed support with photos and got no response in 10 days. That's the part that frustrates me.

Hi Vesta, a crease running through the subject of the print is not okay, and I'm sorry we haven't gotten back to you in 10 days. We've been digging through the inbox and can't find your email with the photos, so something may have gotten lost on our end. Please resend to contact@skyimagelab.com with your order number and we'll get a reprint out right away.
